Agenda
What We Stand For
One Vermont is committed to a state that works for for all Vermonters – where everyone contributes to and enjoys the state’s prosperity. One Vermont works to:
- Promote fiscal policies that support the public sector as fundamental to the well being of our communities and our state.
- Promote greater citizen understanding of and participation in state fiscal matters, built on availability of accessible and understandable tax and budget information.
- Re-engage Vermonters with their government, encouraging people to work together for policies, programs and public structures that help provide the opportunity for every Vermonter to participate and prosper.
2010 Legislative Goals
In the coming legislative session, One Vermont will advocate for:
- A balanced approach to addressing Vermont's budget shortfall. A balanced approach includes the use of new revenues, rainy day funds, federal funds, and possible debt to meet the challenges posed by the current economic crisis.
- A study of our long-term revenues and needs. The first step towards a revenue system that reflects our changing economy is to study where our revenue system has fallen behind the times and examine options for modernizing it.
- A legislative requirement to develop and publish a current services budget* and take other steps to make the budget process more transparent.
Right now there is no simple way to determine how a proposed budget affects
services without having a baseline to compare it to.
A current services budget will be that baseline.
